Music for the Under Fives is a Music &Movement
Group for parents & Under Fives. The sessions are structured and include
singing & playing a variety of songs from Nursery songs to Chart music! Percussion instruments are widely used and children
have every opportunity to play them and experiment with different sounds. Each
week a different theme is used and the children are encouraged to bring something along relating to the particular theme,
be it a book, painting or song.
AIMS OF THE GROUP
Playing a musical instrument helps a child to develop concentration, Quick thinking, Hand-eye
co-ordination, confidence & self-discipline.Scientific evidence also suggests
that teaching a child music also produces a measurable improvement in a child’s ability to think, study and learn.’

Parents may also pick up some useful ideas to find & develop their own child’s
natural ability & enthusiasm for music. But above all, the most important
factor is that the children have fun and can look back on their Music Group as a most enjoyable & stimulating experience!

WHO IS IT FOR?
Parentsand families with babies and under
fives would undoubtedly benefit from this group. The decision as to how young
a child should be before introducing them to the music sessions lies with the parents themselves. This question is often raised and it’s usually only the parents who are able to judge whether or
not their child is ready. From very early on, a child absorbs the things going
on around him/her even before birth, and the songs or music a mother plays whilst in pregnancy, studies have shown that once
born, the child shows recognition and a reaction to the music when heard again. And
there is no set limit where the child is too ‘old’ for the group. Many have come along until they start school
or pre-school, and even then have enjoyed returning to us once they have an opportunity when they have an occasional ‘inset’
day at their school.
